Heavy machinery was used to break open the roof of the garage, so the fire department could access the fire easier. Firefighters later removed the garage door to check for hot spots.

FortisBC cut power to the home. The fire crew is expected to remain on site for several more hours. The man who owns the home is travelling back from Vancouver.

Observers report that the fire seems contained to the house and garage, and firefighters are directing their hoses into the garage.

A neighbour reports that the garage was full of various items, as the resident was a collector.
