On January 10 an ad hoc group will meet in the office of Paulina Tin at Similkameen Elementary School to discuss further the opening a Youth Drop In Centre in downtown Keremeos.
The PEACE Program at Lower Similkameen Community Services has found a suitable and vacant location that has been scouted out. Work with the landlord has begun.
The present challenge is to fund the pilot Youth Drop-In Centre Program extending to School Summer Holidays as a Pilot Project.
“A Keremeos Drop In Centre would be a safe, comfortable and secure setting in which youth can take the lead with help and oversight from adults, “ said Dave Cursons, coordinator of the PEACE Program at Lower Similkameen Community Services.

Since this past fall a number of interests, including the Province of BC, Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, three non-profits and an independent came together to develop after-school activity for youngsters in the Lower Similkameen.
Nearly all of these present programs are short term rely upon funding which may or may not continue to be available.
“A Youth Drop In Centre could deliver an assortment of youth programs over the longer term,” said Cursons.
The PEACE Program is funded by The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and is located at Lower Similkameen Community Services, 310 Veterans Ave. in Keremeos.
Since 1976, the non-profit Lower Similkameen Community Services has provided a whole range of social supports for people of all ages with a wide variety of needs.
