Food bank benefits from region’s generosity

the Keremeos branch won the contest and the Cawston Food Bank is richer by $6,500.

To the Editor:

We won!

What a way to start the new year.

Thanks to the generosity of the valley, faithful contributors of food to Valley First’s Feed the Valley contest last year, the Keremeos branch won the contest and the Cawston Food Bank is richer by $6,500.

What a much needed boost for us. This will go a long way to help feed the needy in our valley.

The students from Cawston Primary and those from SESS contributed a lot of hard work to the food drive. It was those forty plus boxes of food that they collected that put this area over the top. All the students deserve a congratulatory note for their effort.

Christmas hampers contained juice from Warenberg Orchards, squash, potatoes and onions from Bear’s Fruit Stand, carrots from Don McCurdy and apples from Cawston Cold Storage.

The Cawston Food Bank also benefited from private donations this winter from Interior Health union staff ($250),  Bob Thurston ($200), and a $100 gift certificate from a Valu Plus donor.

This season’s efforts helped 179 people. The Cawston Food Bank appreciates the support given in the past and looks forward to continued support in the future. We can’t do it without you - and the need continues to grow.
