Enderby’s Starlight Drive-In is not exempt from Dr. Bonnie Henry’s 50 vehicle limit.

The province’s top doctor confirmed Monday her order limiting vehicles applies to all drive-in movie theaters along with special events.

Now, the Starlight Drive-In staff are reviewing its operations and re-evaluating the “feasibility of our summer drive-in season.”

“We have a less risky environment when we have people in cars,” Dr. Henry said in an update Monday, May 25. “You can have more than one person in a car, but that becomes a very challenging situation when you have large numbers of vehicles.”

She said this 50-vehicle limit is not a forever thing, but it is necessary for this phase. Dr. Henry suggested this restriction could be eased later this summer.

“But I can’t predict that,” she said.

The popular drive-in theatre in Enderby opened earlier this month with new rules in place ensuring appropriate physical distancing measures and other provincial orders could be adhered to.

Starlight Drive-In responded May 25 acknowledging the provincial order.

“In order to fully comply with all government regulations, we are now limiting ticket sales to 50 cars with no concession,” the website reads.

Now, patrons who have pre-purchased tickets for its May 28-June 1 showings are able to call Ticketseller at 250-549-7469 to cancel and receive a full refund, or attend the drive-in as planned, but motorists must bring their own refreshments and are required to stay in the vehicle except to use the washrooms.

Staff will update the website once long-term decisions have been made.
