While Summerland was without power for six hours overnight on Oct. 15 and 16, the outage did not result in a crime spree, police say.
“We did not experience an increase in files of concern,” he said.

Another six-hour outage is planned to run from Oct. 22 at 10 p.m. to Oct. 23 at 4 a.m. While some residents are concerned about the possibility of increased crime during that time, Preston said the community is safe.
He urges people to secure their valuables and lock their vehicles, with valuable items kept out of sight. This is a practice that should occur at all times, not only during a power outage, he said.
In addition, he said residents should contact the police if they see questionable behaviours.
“We encourage people to call us when they see suspicious activities,” he said.
FortisBC has scheduled the two outages in order to do upgrades to electrical power in Summerland.
