COVID-19 cases explode in Penticton

Penticton saw a record 306 cases last week, nearly double from the week prior

The South Okanagan Similkameen saw a record number of COVID-19 cases over the week of January 2 to 8.

The region saw 464 cases recorded over the week, up by over 200 cases compared to the last week of December, which saw a total of 248 cases according to data available from the BC Centre for Disease Control.

The majority of the cases come from the Penticton local health area, which saw a record number of 306 new cases between Jan. 2 and 8. That is almost double the 155 cases recorded the week before.

Summerland also saw its largest number of new cases over a single week with 63. That broke the previous record set over Dec. 26 and Jan. 1 of 41 new cases.

The number of cases in Keremeos stayed below the local health area’s record, with 12 over the week of Jan. 2 to 8.

The Southern Okanagan local health area, stretching from Okanagan Falls to Osoyoos, recorded 66 cases over Jan. 2 to 8, triple the number of cases recorded over the last week of December.
