The number of new COVID-19 cases in the South Okanagan Similkameen continues to break weekly records with 548 cases over Jan. 9 to 15.
Three of the region’s local health areas, Summerland, Keremeos and Penticton all saw their second week of broken records according to the data available from the BC Centre for Disease Control.
Summerland saw 81 new cases over the week, up from the 63 recorded the week before and the previous record of 41 new cases set over Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.
Keremeos recorded 26 new cases over the week of Jan. 9 to 15, 11 more than the previous highest numbers the area had seen over the pandemic.
The Penticton local health area, stretching from Naramata to Kaleden, continued to see the highest number of weekly cases in the region with 350 over most recent week, compared to the previous record of 306 set over Jan. 2 to 8.

Interior Health recently declared outbreaks at three long-term care facilities in South Okanagan at Westview Place in Penticton and the Summerland Seniors Village as well as Mariposa in Osoyoos.
The Southern Okanagan local health area recorded 83 new cases over the week of Jan. 9 to 15, up from the 66 recorded the week before.
The Princeton local health area’s numbers were the only to decrease, with eight cases recorded over Jan. 9 to 15 compared to 17 recorded over Jan. 2 to 8.
