Council discusses park signage at regular meeting

It was a relaxed and light agenda at the Monday March 7 regular meeting of Keremeos Village Council last week.

Council witnessed a delegation requesting that the village proclaim March to be Community Services Awareness month.  Lynn Kelsey and Zola Goebel were on hand to present to council the goals that community social service groups wished to focus on during the month long awareness campaign. Council unanimously agreed to make the proclamation.

Council discussed the location of a new sign for Memorial Park at length. The sign will be paid for through grant funding as well as through a donation from a private citizen. Council reviewed the pros and cons of many different possible locations in the park, with the final decision for placement yet to come. Councillors Cowling and Minshull will meet with the parks committee to make a final decision regarding placement.

An  in camera decision was made in December of 2010 regarding 2011 funding to Similkameen Country for tourist information services.

It was decided that the village willl provide $12,000 to Sim Country for tourist information services this year. The village partners with Areas “B” and “G” in this endeavour.
