A Princeton man who evaded police in Tulameen over the BC Day holiday weekend was finally stopped in Princeton - but only after he drove his vehicle towards an RCMP officer.

“Our member threw his flashlight at the windshield of the car as he was attempting to get out of the way,” said Corporal Chad Parson.

An officer patrolling the Tulameen area attempted to stop the vehicle, at about 2:15 a.m. on August 5, said Parsons.

“There were complaints about how the vehicle had been operating in Coalmont.”

The patrol officer did not pursue the car, in the interests of public safety. Instead he radioed ahead to the Princeton detachment.

“Members were able to locate the vehicle on Vermilion Avenue at Highway 3. They attempted to box in the vehicle but as they were approaching the vehicle it was able to avoid the cars and drove actually towards one of our members,” said Parsons.

The driver was later located and charged with two counts of failing to stop for police.

“We are glad that our officer wasn’t injured, and that none of our officers were injured, in this occurrence.”
