An organics facility with a price tag of close to $1.2 million will be constructed at the Oliver Landfill.
At the June 2 Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen board meeting, the contract for the construction project was awarded to Modular Electric Ltd.

The bid was for $1,176,973.80 plus applicable taxes. In addition, a $100,000 contingency has been approved for use if necessary during the construction.
In 2020, the regional district applied for a grant through the Organics Infrastructure Program — Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund, to construct a facility at the Oliver Landfill. A total of 66.7 per cent of the funding will come from the federal and provincial governments.
The project was tendered on March 29, closing on May 13. Modular Electric submitted the lower bid of the two submitted.
The total budget for the project is $1.8 million. This includes the cost of composting equipment and estimated engineering fees during construction. At present, $196,886.32 has been spent on this project.
