Just in time for the long weekend, the campfire ban in Penticton will be lifted on Friday, Sept. 2, at 12 p.m, fire chief Larry Watkinson has announced.
“Proper measures should be taken to ensure campfires and beach fires are successfully extinguished once all campfire activities are completed,” Watkinson said.
The lifting of the ban only applies to campfires and beach fire pits.
Anyone found in violation of the remaining open fire ban may be fined, the city added.
Watkinson’s formal announcement comes one day after the BC Wildfire Service lifted the campfire ban for all of the Kamloops Fire Centre.
“It is the individual’s responsibility to ensure that burning is done in a safe and responsible manner,” they said in a press release Wednesday.
Category 2 and 3 fires remain prohibited, including the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages and binary exploding targets.
There are currently no wildfires of note within the Kamloops Fire Centre.
The Dinosaur Lake blaze in the Prince George Fire Centre and the Fat Dog Creek wildfire in EC Manning Provincial Park remains BCWS’ only wildfires of note.
