Penticton RCMP report a busy weekend responding to 175 calls between Friday morning and Sunday midnight.

According to Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth additional resources were brought in to handle the expected busy time with both the Beach City Beach Cruise and the Penticton Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival taking place.

On the roads, members of the RCMP’s municipal traffic section and the South Okanagan Traffic Services had their hands full.

There were nine impaired charges which included immediate 90-day roadside suspensions and criminal code matters and seven, three-day immediate roadside suspensions.

As well, one unlicensed driver and four prohibited drivers were also caught. Two charges of excessive speeding were also reported.

Excessive speeding is driving at a speed greater than 40 kilometres an hour over the posted limit. It carries a fine of $368 plus penalty points, 60 kmh over is a $483 fine and points.

First offence also results in immediate impoundment of the vehicle for seven days plus towing and storage costs. Second offence within a two-year period is a 30-day suspension plus costs.

“The attendees of the car show themselves are a well behaved group and look after themselves,” said Wrigglesworth. “But it was the first really hot nice weekend.”
