BCFGA to meet with minister over Columbia treaty

Meeting scheduled with Minister of Agriculture for late October

The BC Fruit Growers Association (BCFGA) previously asked government to recognize damage caused to the B.C. tree fruit sector when the Columbia River Treaty (CRT) made possible the massive expansion in acreage in the U.S.

Between 1964 and present, Washington State apple production has increased from 12 million boxes to over 110 million boxes per year. In the same period of time, B.C. apple production has shrunk from 12 million boxes to about four million boxes per year. The BCFGA is partnering with other affected commodities (BC Vegetable Marketing Commission and the BC Potato Growers Association) to seek investment funded by the cash inflow from the CRT. A meeting is scheduled with the Minister of Agriculture for late October.
