Alleged Keremeos attacker to get psychological evaluation ahead of trial

The man who allegedly attacked the staff at the Village of Keremeos’ municipal office will get a psychological evaluation to see if he is mentally fit to stand trial.

Cameron Urquhart was made an appearance in Penticton Provincial Court on Wednesday. His lawyer requested the evaluation to which both Crown counsel and the judge agreed.

Urquhart remains in custody and is scheduled to appear next on March 9.

RCMP arrested Urquhart following a violent attack on Jan. 24 at the village’s office.

The Village of Keremeos’ office remains largely closed for the time being, with services available by phone and email while the village focuses on the recovery for the staff involved in the attack and on repairs to damages done to the office.
