$8M in wages for Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen staff

Staff at the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen received more than $8 million in wages in 2020, along with more than $68,000 in expenses.

The information was released in the 2020 Statement of Financial Information.

The statement showed 34 employees at the regional district received compensation of $75,000 or more. The highest paid was Bill Newell, chief administrative officer for the regional district, with a salary of $170,755.

The compensation for all employees came to $8,019,231, with $68,485 in expenses. The remuneration figures include $69,125 in overtime wages attributed to emergency operations.

During 2020, there were three severance agreements where payment was made between the regional district and its non-unionized employees. These agreements represent between two and four months of compensation, according to the statement.

The figures in 2020 were slightly higher than in 2019. The 2019 statement showed $8,809,824 in regular remuneration and expenses of $95,665.
