Penticton’s longest-running triathlon is coming to town Sunday, July 17.

The 38th Peach Classic Penticton Triathlon returns with athletes and supporters expected to gather along Lakeshore Drive for the 7 a.m. swim event.

You can cheer on the 250 athletes when they enter the water at Rotary Park Beach for the 1.5 kilometre or 750 meter swim in Okanagan Lake.

Residents of Penticton and Naramata should anticipate temporary road closures, expect delays and use caution when travelling through the area.

This is the first return of the Peach Classic since the pandemic hit with many triathletes gearing up or travelling here for the race.

The swim is 1.5 km or 750m sprint, biking is 40 or 20 km and the run is 10 or 5 km.

Road closures

Lakeshore Drive will be closed in sections starting from 4:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. between Riverside Drive and Front Street. Access to Lakeside Resort and Pier Water Sports is available from Main Street.

Motorists should also watch for traffic control personnel and cyclists along the bike course during the morning hours, including Vancouver Hill, Lower Bench, Upper Bench and Naramata Roads. Use extreme caution and be prepared to share the road with runners and cyclists.
