The Penticton Vees are recognizing the work and the difficulties that face all first responders on the job with a special hockey game tonight.

“What the first responders go through, everybody has different challenges in their jobs and in their lives, but I have a lot of respect for the things they do for the community,” said Vees head coach Fred Harbinson. “They put themselves in situations that are not easy. When you have people like that, they need to be recognized.”

The First Responders Night game recognizes all of the first responders in the community, from the emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics, police officers, firefighters, and search and rescue members. All first responders are eligible for a complimentary ticket to the game with identification.

Some of the Vees have recently been out visiting some of the local first responders, spending time with the RCMP and the Fire Department. The Vees are also participants in the drug awareness program, which takes them down to Vancouver to see firsthand what the RCMP does there. Tonight’s game is just another way for the whole team to recognize the work that the first responders put in every day.

Tonight’s game against the Nanaimo Clippers begins at 6 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
