The Penticton Vees are starting off 2020 strong with a three-game win streak after their 8-4 win over the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday.

Jackson Niedermeyer picked up four points and a hat-trick on the way to helping the Vees earn their 30th win of the season.

Niedermeyer opened the night’s scoring just 33 seconds into the game, the Grizzlies facing an early Vees powerplay after taking a delay of game penalty before the first faceoff. David Silye and Danny Weight got the puck to Neidermeyer, whose first shot was blocked before catching the rebound and finding the gap between the Grizzlies’ goalkeeper’s legs.

Victoria rallied with a goal four minutes later, and despite the Vees outshooting them at one point 10-2, found a way past Yaniv Perets a second time with 34 seconds left in the period.

The second period was a high-tempo game of tug-of-war, as the Vees and Grizzlies poured on the speed and the shots.

The Grizzlies captain, Marty Westhaver, added to their lead with another goal 1:40 into the period.

Niedermeyer was there to swing things back towards the Vees with the assistance of David Silye, scoring 43 seconds later. Niedermeyer’s first shot from the face-off circle was blocked, and he collected the rebound before sending it between the legs for the second time.

Tylor Ho picked up his ninth goal of the season less than a minute-and-half later, off assists from Colton Kalezic and Tristan Amonte, to tie the game back up.

Victoria and the Vees scored another goal apiece within a minute of each other, Victoria first at 6:59 into the period, and then the Vees’ Tristan Amonte tying it up again at 7:55. Connor Hutchison and Carson Kosobud assisted on Amonte’s 11th goal of the season.

Niedermeyer closed out the six-goal period with his third of the night and 16th of season unassisted at 14:05.

The final period belonged to the Vees, with the Grizzlies only getting four shots on net over the whole 20 minutes.

David Silye extended the Vees lead 7:37 into the last period, finding the magic gap between the Grizzlies’ goalkeepers leg once again. Hutchison and Niedermeyer earned assists on the play, making for Niedermeyer’s fourth point of the game.

Tristan Amonte earned his second goal of the game right at the nine-minute mark with an assist from Tyler Ho.

The final goal of the night belonged to Steve Holtz, who took a pass from Amonte before finding the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season with 2:20 left to go in the game.

The Vees are back on home ice on Wednesday, Jan. 8 to take on the Langley Rivermen at 6:30.
