Captain Conyr Hellyer scored two goals, including one shorthanded, and the Penticton Vees came back to stun the Victoria Grizzlies 5-3 on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.
Hellyer added an assist on one of Penticton's three unanswered goals in the third period, as the club rallied back late after trailing 3-2.
Max Heise, Ryden Evers, and Luke Posthumus also scored for the Vees, who have won six games in a row and eight out of their first nine to start the 2024-2025 season. Evers and Posthumus both recorded assists, marking the second game in a row the pair have had multi-point nights.
Anselmo Rego picked up two more assists and has recorded at least one point in each of the Vees' nine games.
The Vees (8-1-0-0) leave the Fraser Valley-hosted showcase after winning two games in as many nights. Penticton beat Okotoks 6-2 on Tuesday in Abbotsford.
Victoria and Penticton combined for four goals in the first period Wednesday, with Hellyer scoring two for the Vees and Malcolm Green and Anderson Pirtle finding the back of the net for the Grizzlies.
After a scoreless middle frame, Drew Hockley scored on the power play at 6:49 of the third period to give Victoria a 3-2 lead.
Penticton started its rally two minutes later, with Heise, Evers and Posthumus scoring in succession.
Vees netminder Will Ingemann made 19 saves to record his sixth victory of the campaign.
His counterpart, the Grizzlies' Tyler Hodges, stopped 31 shots.
Penticton heads to Alberta this weekend for a pair of games, starting with a showdown against the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Saturday. One night later, the Vees will be in Spruce Grove to battle the Saints.
The next Penticton home game is set for Oct. 26, when the Vernon Vipers come to the South Okanagan Events Centre.
