The Similkameen Country Development Association has moved and will be operating its visitor information services out of the Similkameen Recreation Centre in Keremeos.

The SCDA issued a press release on April 15 announcing that it had secured the space in the Rec Centre lobby for 2025.

The move came after the lease for the previous Visitor Centre at Memorial Park ended in December and the organization's service agreement with the RDOS adjusted on March 6.

"For years, the Visitor Centre in Memorial Park has been more than just an information hub - it has been a welcoming space for travellers, a platform for local businesses and a resource for residents," the SCDA said. "Although unexpected, this change brings new opportunities to evolve and strengthen our service to the region."

The SCDA said that while they will be operating out of the Rec Centre lobby for the next year, they are exploring long-term solutions for a location.

Signage to direct travellers to the new location will be installed over the coming months.

In addition to continuing the visitor services, the SCDA will also keep up with things like the Similkameen Sizzle and its Agri-Tourism Strategy.

The SCDA had operated the info centre at Memorial Park for 20 years after they took it over when the former regional chamber of commerce formally shut down.

The nature of that arrangement has caused issues in recent months, leading to the revisions to the service agreement with the RDOS and the move to the Rec Centre.

"Once again, we want to clarify that we will continue providing chamber-style services, including networking opportunities, advocacy and training resources," the SCDA said. "These services are funded through membership dues and grants, separate from our visitor services agreement with the RDOS."
