The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is considering new regulations requiring operators of short-term rental accommodations to obtain business licenses.

Short-term rentals include vacation rentals and bed and breakfast operations.

If the bylaw is adopted, operators of short-term rental accommodations must meet criteria to obtain a license.

These include complying with the provincial principal residence requirement, providing off-street vehicle parking, completing a health and safety inspection and providing a fire evacuation plan.

Those affected by the proposed bylaw are encouraged to submit written representations to the regional district by Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. Submissions can be sent by mail or delivered to the regional district office, 101 Martin St., Penticton, V2A 5J9, by email to planning@rdos.bc.ca or online at rdos.bc.ca.
