The planned ignition that was expected to take place Monday will no longer be happening due to weather conditions not being conducive to the operation.
“We will be monitoring the conditions onsite further into the week for an opportunity to complete this operation. This ignition will be taking place along the north flank of the fire and will be approximately 200 hectares in size, using a combination of aerial and hand ignitions,” stated BC Wildfire.
The goal of the planned ignition is to bring the active fire perimeter to already established control lines, under fire behaviour conditions that are more suitable for efficient and effective fire suppression efforts.
The Calcite Creek wildfire south of Princeton saw no growth overnight and remains 1,789 hectares in size, as of July 29.
There are 29 firefighting personnel and 21 structure protection personnel working this fire.
According to BC Wildfire, crews will be continuing mop-up on the north flank, with the support of heavy equipment.
The crew will also be continuing to wrap a guard along the northwest corner of the fire and tying that into the preexisting guard along the west flank.
