If you have an idea to bring your community together, the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen might have some money to make it a reality.
The annual Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program is back, offering up to $500 to help residents turn their ideas into impacts on the community.
There is a total of $25,000 available to be doled out through the $500 individual microgrants.
In 2024, 22 households in Penticton received grants, and across the South Okanagan-Similkameen grants funded 70 community-led projects to strengthen bonds and create a more inclusive and welcoming place to live.
Projects that received funding in 2024 included a seed library in Penticton, the 5K Fun Run in the Similkameen, multiple block parties in various communities, volunteer-run community gardens and even outhouse races in Hedley.
No experience or organization is required—just an idea and a passion for community. The application is simple, asking for your idea, how you will engage your neighbours, and how the $500 grant will make an impact.
“These small grants empower everyday residents to take action and make a difference,” said Kim English, NSG Coordinator at CFSOS. “When neighbours come together to create something meaningful, it strengthens our entire region.”
Since 2016, NSG has funded over 700 projects, engaging thousands of residents across the region. In 2024 alone, more than 1,500 people participated in events that received funding from the program, with many applicants applying for the first time or returning to build on a successful past gathering.
Applications are open until April 18, 2025. Interested residents can attend one of seven in-person NSG Info Sessions across the region or join an online session to learn more.
