The Lower Similkameen Indian Band has rescinded the off-roading and open burning bans for its territories, as of Nov. 2

The LSIB has warned that the lands, including the Ashnola smǝlqmíx Protected Area, remain in drought-type conditions.

Category 1 Fire restrictions, which include campfires, had been lifted in the fall.

The Kamloops Fire Centre lifted its Category 2 open burning restriction in September and its Category 3 open burning restriction in October.

The LSIB declined to follow, citing the dry conditions and plentiful fuel still in the region.

"Please note that respectful and careful use of the territories remains the responsibility of every land user, regardless of who they are," said the LSIB. "When enjoying any campfire, your fire must also be fully extinguished when leaving your camping area, regardless of whether it is day-use or overnight."

Several areas are still recovering from wildfires in recent years, and in places that lack vegetation to hold soil together when soaked with precipitation.
