The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen is another step closer towards potentially acquiring the Sage Mesa private water system. The system is in need of expensive repairs and upgrades.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has postponed an information session on the private Sage Mesa water system to an undetermined future date.

The session had been scheduled for Aug. 6, the day after the long weekend, which raised concerns among residents about the timing.

The Sage Mesa water system is currently in the middle of the process of being potentially taken over by the RDOS.

If the takeover is approved, the system needs up to $19 million in upgrades to bring it up to modern standards.

Those costs may be offset by grant funding and sources other than increased water rates and taxation, however, those sources have not been fully identified yet.

The takeover also needs support from impacted residents and the RDOS' board of directors before it can proceed.

No date has been scheduled yet for the future information session, or what location it will be held in, but the RDOS stated that advance notice would be provided through its website and Voyent Alert system.
