As the nights grow longer and colder it’s once again time to Shed the Light on Addiction as Penticton’s Discovery House begins its annual fundraiser.

The addiction recovery program relies on a mix of grants and the support of the community through fundraisers to keep running.

The goal for 2023 is to once again raise $150,000 towards funding the program’s 13 recovery beds and the treatment and care for between 16 to 20 men who are struggling with addiction.

Every $10 in donations strings up a light, $100 for a strand of 10 bulbs and a strand of 25 lights is a $250 donation.

This year Discovery House is also offering the opportunity to sponsor a client’s treatment.

People are then invited to the light up ceremony at their Winnipeg Street location at 4 p.m. on Dec. 16 for an open house and refreshments, followed by the light-up ceremony at 5 p.m.

For people who are unable to make it in person, Discovery House will also be putting on a live broadcast of the ceremony on their website.

Many clients are not able to afford the care they so desperately need, and a $5,000 donation would pay for one month of supportive recovery treatment at Discovery House, with a full 90-day program’s costs covered by $15,000 in donations.

Donations can be made through the Discovery House website at discoveryhouserecovery.com/support-us, by e-transfer to info@discoveryhouserecovery.com or by cheque or cash sent to the program’s Winnipeg Street house at 633 Winnipeg Street, Penticton, BC V2A 5N1.
