With a snap election expected in the next month, the federal NDP are opening up multiple campaign offices in the Similkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding.
In a press release issued on March 20, NDP candidate Linda Sankey announced the opening of the offices in anticipation of the writ dropping on March 23.
Offices will be located at 35 Backstreet Blvd. in Penticton, at #140-1402 Columbia Ave. in Castlegar and at a third to-be-determined location in the Boundary.
The announcement by NDP of the campaign offices is the first major move in the riding.
Sankey was chosen by a members vote to represent the NDP in the riding in February with hopes of replacing retiring NDP MP Richard Cannings.
The Conservative Party of Canada has not yet chosen a candidate from its list of nominees, and neither the Green Party of Canada or the Liberal Party of Canada have announced any candidate or nominees for candidate.
The People's Party of Canada has selected Barry Dewar, the former owner of the Kamloops Storm hockey team, to be their candidate in the riding.
The riding itself underwent significant changes following the 2022 redistricting process, expanding to cover the whole Similkameen Valley and losing sections in the Kootenay-Boundary including Trail, Nakusp and Arrow Lakes.
If the snap election is called on March 23 as expected, an election will occur in late April or early May.
