With the first weekend of June here, the meteorological start of summer has arrived.

A three-day mountain bike race that starts in Naramata and navigates through the Three Blind Mice trail comes to the community this weekend.

The event will feature group rides, live entertainment and biking challenges all day, from Friday to Sunday.

Start of Penticton Seniors Week (June 2)

Penticton Seniors Week kicks off with several events and gatherings across the city.

Along with free transit in Penticton for seniors until June 8, activities and celebrations will be hosted by the South Okanagan Seniors Wellness Society.

Penticton Seniors Week runs from June 2 to 8, as declared by the city.

A full schedule of next week’s festivities can be found here.

Community Street Painting Project (June 1)

The community is set to gather on Saturday afternoon to help paint the intersection of Ellis Street and Nanaimo Avenue in Penticton.

As part of the city’s new “Friendly Streets Initiative,” volunteers will be at the downtown intersection starting at 2:30 p.m.

The event follows a similar project in early May when 17 students from KVR Middle School painted murals on a section of Jermyn Avenue, with community safety on top of mind.

Saturday’s gathering will feature live music and a barbecue by donation. All painting supplies will be provided.

Robert Larrabee dazzles with singing impressions (June 1)

Nashville songwriter and recording artist Robert Larrabee comes to the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre on Saturday night.

Performing around the world for more than 30 years, Larrabee is set to bring his full-costume, singing impressions.

The artist is expected to impersonate some of the world’s most well-known stars.

Show runs from 7 to 9 p.m.

Summerland ActionFest 2024 (May 31 to June 2)

The 41st annual Summerland Action Festival comes to the community this weekend.

Featuring live music, a slo-pitch tournament and more, the festival runs from Friday to Sunday.

Tribute artists that honour bands like Heart, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles will also perform.

Walkin’ and Rollin’ Pride event (June 2)

The South Okanagan Similkameen Pride Society brings a “‘Walkin and Rollin’ Pride” event to downtown Penticton on Sunday.

Participants will gather at the S.S. Sicamous at 1 p.m., before walking, rolling, skating boarding, or riding down Lakeshore Drive and toward the city’s outdoor rink on Martin Street.

Stickers and flags will be handed out for people to carry, and glitter stations will also be set up along the route.

Okanagan Sax at Cannery Brewing (June 2)

Cannery Brewing welcomes Okanagan Sax to its taproom for a Sunday night show, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Curtis Kieres, a local professional saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist will take the stage, the brewery says.

There is no cover charge to attend the show.
