Penticton's Waycon Manufacturing will be expanding with a recent investment from the provincial government.
The Penticton-based company is set to receive $575,000 from the BC Manufacturing Job Fund. The same fund recently invested $7 million in Mercer Mass Timber's Okanagan Falls facility.
The investment in Waycon will be in partnership with the company's own investments, and will provide for 12 new jobs.
“This funding is a significant milestone for us, as it provides an exciting opportunity for growth and improvement, aligning with our ambitious plans of providing our customers with a complete turnkey solution,” said John O'Connell, president of Waycon Manufacturing Ltd, in a press release.
The company currently employs 52 skilled tradespeople in Penticton.
The investments will be used to install a new horizontal boring machine, a new lathe, and three new cranes. The boring machine and one of the three cranes have already been installed and are operational.
The company is also working on expansion plans that will add 5,000 square-feet to its Penticton facility, bringing it up to 40,000 and installing two 10-tonne cranes that will allow for work on pieces weighing up to 22,000 pounds.
"Our goal is to have everything completed by the end of fall, ensuring that we can continue to meet the needs of our growing operations," Waycon said.
