Doreen Smith

The stars were out for the sold out (41 strong) dinner crowd at the South Similkameen Museum Society’s Awards Banquet and AGM.  Doreen Smith was the star of the evening as she was honoured with her own star award for her 38-year commitment as president and unfailing advocate of the society.  In supporting roles were Frances Peck, Mary Biro, Edna Brown and John Armstrong with Long Term Service Awards.  Frances Peck and Doreen Smith were also honoured with lifetime memberships in appreciation for their many years of dedicated service.  The evening would not have been complete without the ladies of the Royal Purple who received a great round of applause for dishing up a fabulous roast beef feast.

This is an exciting time for the society.  During the last year, membership has almost tripled and the momentum is tangible.  The newly elected executive and board of directors are planning new initiatives and more social happenings. The prime objective for the coming year is to increase membership even more and as the membership grows we anticipate obtaining a much-needed new home for the museum.  Watch for exciting events, opportunities to get involved, and lots of fun for members and the public.  If you are interested in joining a dynamic group of volunteers and would like to purchase a membership, or other information contact: ssimmussoc@hotmail.ca or phone Judy 499-2883 or Doreen 499-5746.
