Pecha Kucha Penticton is returning for Vol. 13 on Sept. 27 at Cannery Brewing at 129 Nanaimo Ave. W.

With the smoke beginning to clear, the speaker series’ next instalment is titled Pecha Kucha Vol. 13: “Fresh Air: Fresh Perspectives”. The international series Pecha Kucha - meaning “chit-chat” in Japanese - originated in Tokyo in 2003 and is held four times per year within Penticton to encourage discussion and action within the Okanagan.

The format of each series’ session is simple: each presenter is allotted six minutes and 40 seconds to tell their story using a slide-show format. This amounts to 20 images being shown for 20 seconds each.

The upcoming presenters for the Sept. 27 session will discuss Penticton’s direction as a community. Topics include housing, crime, the hospital construction, and other relevant issues. Speakers for the evening are: RCMP Inspector Ted De Jager; chair of the Penticton Creek Association Bryn White; urban cycling activist Matt Hopkins; coordinator of Unity House Clubhouse Maggie Van Emmerik; and regional dean of Okanagan College in Penticton Eric Corneau.

Tickets for the event are $15 each and are available at Cannery Brewing or online. Check out Pecha Kucha Penticton’s Facebook page for more information.
