Photos: Penticton Vees turn into zombies

Vees players volunteered to be the walking dead for Zombie Apocalypse laser tag

After winning back-to-back home games, the Penticton Vees turned into zombies, shuffling their way through the back alleys of downtown Penticton looking for brains on Sunday.

The Vees, including Neidemayer, Gojsic, Sparks, Richter, Norcross, Simpson and even Harvee, the mascot, volunteered to be the walking dead for Orbis Sports Zombie Apocalypse laser tag — much to the thrill of the local kids who didn’t know they’d be taking on the Vees players.

Players were given high powered laser guns and their objective is to shoot the zombies before they get you. Obstacles along the way are a fallen dump truck, dumpsters, traffic gates and of course, smoke machines all the while some good Halloween music is blaring.

On Saturday, it was the Balance School of Performing Arts who volunteered their time to become zombies.

The local Salvation Army was also there collecting food donations for their food bank and handing out candy.

“Our laser tag is the most sophisticated on the planet and this is only one game type of 30. As soon as I saw the Slack Alley party in the news a few weeks ago I knew that was our location to bring these laser games to Penticton,” said Kyle Leduc of Orbis Sports.

Orbis Sports got support from Slackwater Brewing, Balance School of Performing Arts and the Penticton Vees to make it happen, said Leduc.

Leduc is from Edmonton, Alberta but the regional manager in Okanagan is Brent Lyons who calls Penticton home and helped bring the Vees to the Sunday event. Leduc was so impressed with the turn out and community he wants to make Orbis Sports HQ in the Peach City.

“We want to make Penticton home,” said Leduc. “And we definitely want to make this [Zombie laser tag] an annual thing.”

Nighttime Zombie Laser Tag in the Slack Alley was a big hit on Saturday, he said

The laser tag is available until 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30.

Orbis said there’s potential to have other outdoor events, not just at Halloween. Orbis Sports has laser tag, bubble balls and inflatable rentals.
