From the Half Corked Marathon to another pop up roller skating night and several concerts including ZZ Top, there is plenty to do this weekend in the South Okanagan.
On Friday, over 300 firefighters from around B.C. arrived in Penticton to take part in wildfire training that goes until Sunday. Their command centre is at Rotary Park parking lot beside Lakeside Resort.
Saturday is packed with fun events around the South Okanagan.
Half Corked Marathon is this Saturday, April 23 in Oliver starting at 10:30 a.m.
The route has actually grown from 18 to 19 km this year with 20 wineries or winery stations and then 11 at the finish line party, said organizers. Creative costumes are always encouraged and prizes will be awarded for the best individual costume, best team and best skit. Participants will complete the route at the Oliver Community Park.
Craft Culture is coming to Penticton this weekend with a new market that will feature over 70 local crafters and artisans. The event will take place on Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. A wide variety of items will be available for purchase including jewelry, clothing, pottery, photography prints, etc., all handcrafted by talented locals.
Come out to the Roller Rink on Saturday, April 23 at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre from 6 to 9 p.m.
There are 70 pairs of rental skates available. Penticton roller skating nights is in partnership with LockWorks Inc., who hosts popular skating nights.
Local artists unite to put on a concert for Ukraine at the Penticton United Church in downtown Penticton. Starting at 4 p.m., artists like Yanti will perform. There will also be Ukrainian food, paintings, ribbons and plaques. Admission is by donation with all funds going to the Ukrainian Canadian Volunteer Association.
Live fire demonstrations and training will be visible from Campbell Mountain, Naramata and West Bench for the B.C. wildfire training symposium.
This weekend ends with ZZ Top and Cheap Trick rockin’ the South Okanagan Events Centre starting at 7 p.m.
