After a multi-year hiatus, some of the NHL’s top prospects are back in B.C.’s Interior to bring some life into a mid-September weekend in Penticton.
Those hoping to catch more than just the action on the ice, though, won’t be disappointed.
2022 Young Stars Classic (Sept. 16 to 19)
The Vancouver Canucks welcome the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets this weekend for a preseason prospects tournament at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The four-team, six-game showcase kicks off Friday afternoon when the prospects from the Jets welcome those from the Oilers.
People can get their hands on the tournament’s official program in the Sept. 14 print edition of the Penticton Western News, at the office, or at the SOEC on game days.
Along with the NHL young stars’ action, the Penticton Vees will host the Chilliwack Chiefs in a B.C. Hockey League preseason showdown on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Kettle Mettle Gravel Fondo bike race (Sept. 17)
The seventh-annual Kettle Mettle Gravel Fondo returns after a two-year hiatus.
Residents in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Vancouver Avenue can expect road disruptions from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. because of race.
Riders will start in Penticton, before crossing the finish line in Kelowna.
Penticton Fire Department’s charity dodgeball tournament charity (Sept. 17)
Funds will be raised for local charities all day Saturday thanks to the fire department’s dodgeball tournament.
The community is invited to Gyro Park throughout the day to check out the action.
Pathways Burger Barbeque Fundraiser (Sept. 17)
Addictions resource centre Pathways is hosting a BBQ fundraiser Saturday afternoon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 996 Main Street.
The non-profit organization was defunded by Interior Health in 2021.
Pets in the Park (Sept. 18)
It’s a celebration of pets in Penticton this weekend, as Gyro Park hosts the Pets in the Park Party on Sunday morning.
People are invited to bring their pets for a gathering from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will feature live demos, story times for kids, door prizes, games and interactive exhibits.
Penticton Terry Fox Run (Sept. 18)
The annual Terry Fox Run returns to Penticton’s S.S. Sicamous on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
