Volunteer centre hosting team building event

The learning event, held at the Shatford Centre in Penticton, is open to the public

The South Okanagan Similkameen Volunteer Centre is hosting a team-building learning event called Personality and FUNctional Teams on Nov. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Shatford Centre School of the Arts in Penticton.

“Team-building training is a great idea and much needed for many organizations in the region for quite some time.” said Milton Orris, who consults with non-profits in the region and is the retired Dean of Continuing Education at Ryerson University, who serves on the provincial board for the senior games, and many other boards. “One of the barriers to the success for organizations is their ability to work together as a functional group, and this type of training is key to removing that barrier.”

The learning event is open to the public, everyone is welcome. Registration is required in advance.

“This learning event will be interactive, fun and informative. Participants will learn how to create positive working relationships by supporting their team members to achieve their goals. The learning event is suitable for everyone, for volunteers, coordinators of volunteers, working teams, board directors, employees, sports groups, committees and congregations, essentially any person or group that is seeking to improve their working relations with others,” said Wendy Weisner, executive director and one of the founders of the volunteer centre.

Charlene Dishaw will be facilitating the learning event. She has Masters of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University with expertise in volunteer management, leadership and organizational development. Dishaw has a keen interest in the creation of best workplaces for volunteers and employees. Weisner says

“We are grateful for our partnerships with Volunteer B.C. and the Association of Voluntary Resource Management which enabled us to bring Charlene and this learning event to Penticton,” said Weisner.

Anyone interested in attending must register first via www.volunteercentre.info, by calling 1-888-576-5661 or emailing info@volunteercentre.info. The fee is $25 and includes refreshments, lunch and networking.
