The award is from the Paul Harris Fellowship of Rotary International, established in 1957 as a legacy to the founder of Rotary, and to acknowledge members and also members of the community who have demonstrated the spirit of Rotary in the way they work and serve.
Van Alphen has been active within the community.
In October, she was re-elected to a seventh term as a school trustee on the Okanagan Skaha School Board. She has also initiated the Summerland Sharing Stand and is the manager of the Rotary Summerland Sunday Market and Penticton Farmers’ Market.
Within the Rotary Club of Summerland, Van Alphen recently completed two consecutive terms as president and led the club during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When many walked away from the challenges it brought, Linda inspired the club to flourish as it had unprecedented growth in membership, continued its many local initiatives and influence in Rotary at large,” a statement from the club reads.
