Venables Theatre is partnering up to celebrate Oliver’s 100th anniversary.

The theatre is looking for submissions for a special storytellers series in partnership with the One Hundred X One Hundred/X̌cəcikst X X̌cəcikst project.

People willing to share their stories of life in Oliver on the traditional ancestral and unceded territory of the Syilx Peoples of the Okanagan Nation can submit them to be shared and saved for future generations.

The stories can be performed in any genre or medium, whether it is through poetry, dancing, singing, reading aloud or any other form of live performance.

The theatre is looking for stories that are ideally around 10 minutes long.

For those who do not feel confident to take to the stage themselves, their stories can still be submitted for others to perform and share.

In order to assess the interest in the project, Venables is asking storytellers to contact them with their name, a preferred method of contact, a brief one-to-two sentence summary of their story and the genre in which you would perform or if they would prefer to have someone else perform the story instead.

Expressions of interest can be emailed to submissions@venablestheatre.ca. before May 31. Once the organizers have an idea of how many stories they will have to share, they will contact all those who have entered submissions with more information.

The One Hundred X One Hundred (X̌cəcikst X X̌cəcikst in the traditional Syilx language) project is a partnership between the Oliver and District Heritage Society, Oliver Parks and Recreation Society, Oliver Tourism Association, Oliver Community Arts Council, Venables Theatre, Osoyoos Indian Band and the Town of Oliver.

More information about the project can be found on the Oliver Heritage Society website at www.oliverheritage.ca/one-hundred-x-one-hundred.
