SOWINS sold out gala is on Nov. 2.

For its first time hosting a gala, the community support is overwhelming.

The South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS) “Inspiring Hope” fall fundraising event on Nov. 2 is sold out.

The event will be presented by The Penticton Foundry and is set to take place at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

Liz Gomes, executive director of SOWINS, said for those who can’t attend there is still a way to support through a live online auction.

The online auction is part of the fundraising activities to help raise much-needed funds for women, youth, and children in the community. The auction is live now and there is a link to sign up on our website at https://sowins.com/gala/ .

Auction items include a getaway a vacation package to Ucluelet, winery experiences including Mission Hill and Phantom Creek, spa experiences and products, sports memorabilia, art, tickets to the SOEC, gym and wellness passes, wine and gift certificates to Burrowing Owl Winery and house décor.

According to Gomes, SOWINS remains busy supporting many in the community with last year's stats showing more than 2,000 crisis calls answered, more than 1,255 counselling sessions provided for women and children and more than 20,000 in life saving supplies being handed out in the community.

“We work with hundreds of women, youth, and children every year that need support with emergency housing, second-stage housing, counselling for themselves and their children, support in court through our Community-Based Victim Services team or support after surviving a sexual assault to mention a few,” said Gomes.

Funds raised through the auction and the Inspiring Hope Gala will go directly to support survivors of domestic abuse and violence.

The South Okanagan Women in Need Society is a registered charity serving women, children, youth, and families facing abuse and violence.

A 24-hour crisis line, emergency sheltering, counselling services for women, youth and children, mobile outreach and community-based victim services programs are a few of the services SOWINS offers to those in need from Summerland to Osoyoos and Princeton.
