The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is seeking community feedback on a draft design plan for the Similkameen Recreation Centre’s landscaping.

In a press release made available to the public on Monday, the RDOS said that the approach to the project will be aligned with its vision to “be a steward of the environment, sustaining a diverse and livable region that offers a high quality of life.”

The RDOS is accepting community feedback until Dec. 15, with the primary goals of the design being to create an appealing and usable recreation space while ensuring the landscape plan is sustainable and accessible.

After all public feedback is submitted, the district plans on developing the design into a phased five-year plan.

In addition to ensuring that the plan is fiscally viable, the RDOS also said on Monday that having the ability to host events at the centre is one of the key considerations they’ll have when finalizing the design.

The district has said that the project is being funded through the Similkameen Recreation Centre’s capital reserves and grant applications.
