Racers stepped up to the starting line for a good cause on Saturday, June 3 in Kelowna.
Saturday marked the seventh annual Hungry Hungry Half marathon, an event that raises money for the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
Participants in the event were able to pick what race they wanted to take part in: five, 10, or 21 (half marathon) kilometres. There was also a one kilometre race for kids.
The half marathon started at 7:15 a.m., while the other races started soon after.
Dustin Quigley finished in first place in the five km event. The results of the other races haven’t been announced yet. Everyone that participated received a medal and a prize package.
Each race was timed and some racers achieved their own personal best on their race. Same racers have fun with the event as well by wearing a costume while racing.
Over the course of the past events, more than $47,000 has been raised to the Central Okanagan Food Bank. The amount of money raised this year is yet to be announced.
