Senior students at Similkameen Elementary Secondary School were honoured at  an academic achievement / pep rally assembly held at the school’s senior gym on Monday, March 3.

Sixty-five students were named to the Principal’s List, and even more succeeded in being named to the Vice- Principal’s  list.

The senior boys and girls basketball teams were also acknowledged for attaining a berth at the provincials, taking place later this week. The girls make their way to Lumby on Wedneday, while the boys travel to Langley later in the week.

Both teams were introduced to the student body and provided brief demonstrations of their basketball court talents before a number of members of the Prinicipal’s List has their names selected from a hat. The lucky winners were then given an opportunity to pop a balloon filled with an unpleasant substance – anything from chocolate syrup, talcum powder, ketchup, mustard, raw eggs, flour – one gets the picture – over the head of their favourite  (possibly otherwise) teacher.

The result was some messy, smelly fun for everyone as the school wished their high ranking sports team well in the upcoming tournaments.
