Penticton man wins OSNS Harley Davidson raffle

Jon Race is the winner of a brand-new 2018 Heritage Classic Harley Davidson motorcycle after his lucky raffle ticket was pulled at the Peach City Beach Cruise on Sunday morning.

Race has been buying the Harley Raffle tickets for 20 years and bought his winning ticket at a Penticton Vees game several months ago.

“I just can’t believe it. You buy a ticket and never really think you’ll win, but I did,” he said.

When asked where he was on Sunday when he found out he said he had just finished breakfast and was heading down to the Peach City Show to participate in the festivities when a friend sent a text saying, “I think you just won the Harley.”

“I buy tickets every year, but I don’t even ride a motorbike. There’s a chance I’ll win the Harley, but I also buy because I know the money is supporting a good local cause,” said Race.

The Harley Davidson Fundraiser is an annual event that has been going on for over two decades in support of the OSNS Child & Youth Development Centre. The raffle is heavily supported by the members of The Okanagan Motorcycle Riders Association who volunteer countless hours towing the bike to venues across the valley to sell tickets.

“With 4,000 tickets for sale each year, there’s a good chance for someone local to win. I know we have many regular ticket buyers and I was happy to hear that Jon has been a supporter of this fundraiser for many years,” said Meg Dimma from the OSNS Child & Youth Development Centre.

The Peach City Beach Cruise has always had the winning ticket drawn on the last day of the show. This weekend ticket sales climbed almost $10,000 with many people crossing their fingers, their lucky ticket would be drawn on Sunday morning.

The OSNS Child and Youth Development Centre holds several fundraisers for its centre each year. The money ensures the children and families who come to OSNS receive the care and treatment that they require and deserve.
