The Penticton Junior Chamber International (JCI) is gearing up for the fourth annual Valley Wide Food Drive on Saturday, March 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tents will be set up in the south-east corner of the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre parking lot, to allow for people to drive up and drop off their donations.
With food bank stock at a low and demand higher than ever, JCI Penticton will be running the food donation drop off outdoors with additional precautions in place for the volunteers to protect from the spread of COVID-19.
All food collected will be donated to the Salvation Army food bank.
Last year, the Penticton JCI raised over 4,000 pounds of food and close to $3,000 for the food bank.
Among the most needed items for donation are non-perishable goods, such as pork and beans, Chef Boyardee, canned meats, pasta sauce, canned fruit, rice, soup, boxed juices and bottled water.
Perishables such as potatoes, onions and carrots are also desired.
The drop off will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“JCI Penticton is excited to be running the ValleyWide FoodDrive. We are a part of this community and are here to help those who need it the most. We started this event three years ago and the community really got behind it so we wanted to try and keep it going as the need is greater than ever, ” said Katelin Dahlen, ValleyWide FoodDrive organizer.
Last year, even among the pandemic, JCI managed to collect thousands of pounds of food at last year’s ValleyDrive event.
