Penticton has fun-fill day planned for B.C. Day

Free music and dance events all day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Bollywood dance, West African drumming and a stilt-walking troupe are just some of the performances at the B.C. Day Celebration in Gyro Park in Penticton on Monday.

“There’s going to music all day on stage. There’s going to lots of fun family activities including pony rides, bouncy houses, mini-golf, face painting and giant Jenga,” said City of Penticton civic event planner Shawna Guitard.

The free event on Aug. 5 will feature Dance PL3Y from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. After the opening ceremonies at 11:30 a.m., Nankama African Drum will kick off the performances with drum and dance that represent the traditional rhythms of Africa.

Get Bent Bollywood Belly Dancers will hit the stage with six belly dancing styles: Bollywood, Egyptian, Greek and tribal to name a few, from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m.

Kinshira Performance Troupe is up next from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. with stilt walkers, fire dancers, aerial entertainers, circus entertainment and roving atmosphere entertainment.

Penticton’s award-winning Nikita Afonso will also appear on stage from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Rounding off the day, the Black Widow Rope Spinners will be skipping on stage from 3:30 to 4 p.m. A performance by Forever Young takes place at 4 p.m.

“We also have lots of our local food vendors and retail vendors that will fill the park as well. There’s going to be live music all day,” said Guitard.
