From Skaha Lake Road to Martin Street — Penticton’s lake-to-lake cycling route has been chosen.
Council approved the route during their meeting on Nov. 17, following feedback from businesses and the public at a Nov. 16 public hearing.
With the route selected, the city will now begin the design phase of the cycling lanes.
It was noted in the Nov. 17 council meeting that there is potential to choose an alternative route to Martin Street through a revision to the official community plan.

Council approved the vote 5-1 with only Coun. Judie Sentes opposing.
Several members of council shared the hopes that the route would become the first of many as the main artery from which other bike routes could connect to.
It was noted by Mayor Vassilaki that over 1,700 properties would be affected by the proposed bike route.
The route will now enter the planning stage with work on planning and infrastructure to begin in 2021. The design work is estimated to cost from $480,000 to $500,000.
