It appeared to be an ordinary night for Garry and Mary Altwasser until it clearly wasn’t.

At 3 a.m. on a Wednesday morning, the Penticton couple had found out they had won $50,000 from a Lotto 6/49 ticket drawing from Sept. 4.

“My wife looked up the numbers at 3 a.m.,” Garry said. “She checked the first number and then realized that we won the guaranteed prize.”

The two were in their kitchen when they decided to look up the numbers from the ticket that they purchased from Save-On-Foods on Main Street.

As of now, the couple plans on using part of the money on a new vehicle and the rest of it on building a new house.

“It’s incredibly awesome,” said Mary, who believes she’s more excited than her husband. “For many days after I kept saying fifty thousand, fifty thousand.”
