The Penticton craft beer scene celebrated International Women’s Day with the launch of a few special beers, made by women and in collaboration with the Pink Boots Society (PBS).

On Sunday the Cannery Brewing team launched Ceres, a Mango Milkshake IPA brewed by the women of the Cannery Brewing team with the 2020 PBS hops blend. The beer takes inspiration from the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility, and motherly relationships.

This limited-release beer also serves as a fundraiser; a portion of the proceeds will go to the PBS, which promotes and aids women in the beer industry through education.

It’s available on tap and in 4-packs of 473ml cans in Cannery Brewing’s taproom. In the future it will also be available at select private craft beer-focused liquor stores in B.C.

“A few weeks ago we had a brew day at the brewery where the women who work at Cannery Brewing had an opportunity to collaborate and work together to brew this beer,” said Patt Dyck, co-owner of Cannery Brewing in a release on the launch.

”It’s a unique opportunity for the women who work in non-brewing roles to have the experience of brewing beer.”

Close by at Slackwater Brewing, the PBS also brewed a collaboration beer with women from throughout the South Okanagan’s brewing industry, the sales of which will go to support scholarships and programming for PBS members.

Their collaboration brew, ‘New Boots, Who Dis?’ also uses the 2020 PBS hop blend, and will be available in a few weeks.

Kelsey Peyton, co-owner and co-founder of Slackwater Brewing said they are thrilled to be hosting one of this year’s collaborative brew days.

”Meanwhile, it is important that we continue to increase the representation of women in the industry, and we are happy to be a part of that process,” said Peyton.

Last year in 2019, more than 330 breweries in 13 countries participated in International Women’s Brew Day with the PBS.

PBS is an educational non-profit with chapters around the world. Support is offered to women in the beer industry with scholarships, other educational opportunities, and a community to grow with.
