The Penticton Salvation Army Food Bank’s shelves are going to be less bare following the Penticton Junior Chamber International’s fourth annual Valley Wide Food Drive.

The Penticton JCI team was stationed outside Cherry Lane Shopping Centre on Saturday for five hours, and raised over 3,800 pounds of food and $5,540 in cash donations for the food bank.

“We are so thankful for the support we have gotten from our community,” organizer Katelin Dahlen said. “We heard so many stories from people who were donating on the reasons why they were donating. Hearing those stories filled our hearts with joy and gave this event purpose.”

People interested in donating were able to drive up next to the tents in the Cherry Lane parking lot, with the JCI members unload the donated goods while staying COVID-19 safe.

With the pandemic still a fact of life for most people, the demand is still high at the food bank.

In 2020, the Penticton JCI food drive raised over 4,000 pounds of food and close to $3,000 for the food bank.

Over the last four years JCI Penticton has raised over 10,000 pounds and $10,000 in cash donations.
