When Shelly Mackenzie found out she had won a BCLC draw from Oct. 29, there was just one problem.

She was too short to see the screen and find out how much money was coming her way.

“I saw that the Bad Beat was won in Okanagan Falls so I checked the ticket at the Legion self-checker and saw that I was a winner,” she explained. “I had to call my husband over to see the amount won as I was too short to see the screen.”

Shortly after her husband had arrived, Mackenzie learned she was $25,000 richer.

The Okanagan Falls woman won $25,428 by playing Pacific Hold’Em Poker in October at the Royal Canadian Legion on Veterans Way.

And it wasn’t until mid-December while volunteering at the Legion when she found out she was the winner of the draw.

“To begin with I was a little nervous and people kept asking me why I wasn’t excited yet,” she recalled. “I just kept thinking that I have to protect this ticket. This whole process has been so great.”

It appears that there’s one thing Mackenzie has her sights on after winning the prize — a new hot tub.
