New late fee schedule for ORL materials

Higher fees for adults, reduced for children at Okanagan Regional Library

The Okanagan Regional Library is introducing a new late fee schedule on materials to bring it more in line with other library systems around the province, by increasing late fees on overdue items by five cents per day and reducing fees on children’s items by 15 cents per day.

Effective Monday, November 28, late charges on most books, magazines, DVDs, and CDs will be 30 cents for each day overdue; the exceptions are QuickRead books and feature film DVDs which will continue to be $1 per day overdue. In response to customer comments concerning late fees on children’s materials, the ORL has reduced these charges so all junior and young adult materials are only charged 10 cents per day when overdue.

To avoid late fees, customers can sign up for courtesy reminder notices via email to alert them when they have items coming due. Staff at any ORL branch can sign customers up for this pre-notice by confirming their email address.
